Chueca, most nights of the year
LGBTQ+ nightlife in Madrid
In short
Madrid’s gay nightlife is a neighbourhood, Chueca, not a single club night. Plaza de Chueca and Calle de Pelayo are the obvious start, any night of the week. Teatro Barceló is the big room on the edge of the barrio. Pride in July (MADO) takes over the district. The rest of the year you do not need a festival to have a night.
Chueca is used by everyone, and it is still the place where queer bars are the default rather than a listing. Dress codes are looser than Salamanca. They are not loose about phones left on tables or drinks left on bars — same rules as the rest of the city. If you want electronic music rather than a commercial room, Mondo Disko’s nights at Sala But are the nearby option.
July is MADO. Hotels double, streets close, and the ‘where should we go’ question answers itself. Book the bed before you book the night.
Updated 26 October 2026. Hours and prices are typical 2026 ranges, not a live door price. Confirm the night before you go.

Questions people ask
What is the best gay neighbourhood in Madrid?
Chueca. Other barrios have individual bars. None of them replace the plaza.
Do I have to be in Madrid for Pride?
No. Chueca works in October. Pride is larger, harder to book, and not required.
